Hot Rods Next Door!

Growing up next door to the owner of this hot rod was cool. He was also the builder, and early on he took me for a ride. It was primer gray with no hood on it for a long time, and that is how he drove it around.

348 Tri-power

The performance delivered by the 348 tri-power still sticks in my mind. The torquey feeling was impressive as the automatic shifted into second gear and laid down a patch of rubber while pushing me back in the seat. I've had many muscle cars since then that have been much faster, but for some reason an old hot rod with ample power is just a good feeling ride.

Classic Cars

Over the years I would hang around and watch as he built or restored other cars, including more '40 Fords. a '59 Chevrolet Impala, a pair of '57 Oldsmobiles (one white, one pink) and others - there was always something to see next door.

1940 Ford Coupe

White was unheard of for '40 Ford hot rods at the time this car was painted. Most were black, red, or dark blue. That's all changed now and anything goes for hot rod colors.

Straight axles and vintage engines have made a comeback in hot rodding, but that's what this one has had all along. No slouch in performance, good ride and handling, and classic good looks - what more could you want?
