Can-Am

The sports racing cars from the '60s and '70s are fun to photograph. Even standing still, cars like the Lolas, Porsches, Ferraris, McLarens, and Chaparrals have terrific designs with lots of curves to make interesting work of the light and color.

Photographer - spectator

The photo gear pretty much goes wherever I go, but for the vintage Can-Am races it's sometimes tempting to put the camera away and enjoy the action. These cars have it all - the speed, the impressive engine sounds, and the beautiful lines of the sports racing cars. Too much to take in with a camera stuck to my face, but great action for photography.

Pictures of days gone by

Anticipation is high when the time comes to process the pictures. Just looking at them brings to mind the sights and sounds from nearly forty years ago. Even in black and white they look good.

Lola T70 Can-Am Racer

Nicknamed "the breadvan" due to the boxy tail section and flat rear, the Lola T70 was a popular car, with over 100 being built between 1965 and 1967. Replicas are still being built from the original molds, but the price is steep. The T70 had an early start doing very well in endurance racing, which is what this coupe version was designed for.

In '66 the T70 took five of the six races on the Can-Am circuit. 1967 was a different story as they fell behind, being underpowered against the McLaren factory cars which were starting to dominate the series.
