Photographer to the Cars - Dan Knopp |

If it's pink, you can pretty much bet that it came from the factory with three two barrels. Seems you learn a lot when out photographing cars. Usually the owner knows a lot about the particular model, and often they know much of the history of the car.
This Olds had a modification that was very common in its day - the outer two carbs were made inoperable. The reason usually given was to save on fuel, since they actually ran fine for most people on just the center carb. Sure this was done on a lot of three-carb cars, but the real reason is because a lot of mechanics didn't want to take the time to properly set up the carbs. Gas mileage is really just as good or better if you have the carbs properly adjusted and, of course, you aren't always mashing your foot down on the accelerator. |
