Rusty Americana

     It's fun to spot old cars and trucks rusting away in the urban landscape of America, and it doesn't take much driving to spot one or two together. At Simpson's Garden Town Nursery there are old trucks scattered all around the grounds, and they encourage you to take pictures.


Ready to restore

     Some people would say it's a shame to let vintage tin weather away like this when it could be restored or built into a hot rod. This one isn't going to get worse out in the dry climate where it is, and the truth is there are many restored vehicles sitting in private collections which rarely get seen by the public. Besides the trucks outside at Simpson's Nursery, there are two indoor museums with more vintage trucks, muscle cars, and hot rods all in exceptional condition.

     This 1923 Willys Overland 'garden bed' pickup, planted at Simpson's Garden Town Nursery in Jamul, California would be a fun project for a hot rod builder. No doubt the owner gets offers for the truck, but its home is here along with a number of other old trucks in similar condition.
