I keep a camera with me all the time around the Portland, Oregon area, so you'll find a lot of pictures from the various car shows, cruise-ins, races, and club events here - straight from the camera and not 'tuned-up' yet. Billetproof Northwest : Over 700 photos. Billetproof is for real hot rods '64 and earlier. No billet-clad, digital gauge, pastel graphic, named after a fifties song trailer queens! Full shows Saturday and Sunday at the fairgrounds. Last year was a huge success, so this year there was more of everything - lots more. More of the sickest '64 and prior do-it-yourself traditional rods, customs and motorcycles on the planet. More food. More of that great Rockabilly and Gearhead live music. The cruise through downtown on Saturday night is sanctioned by the city this year - the organizers have gone through all the hoops to make this happen, so if everyone behaves they'll allow it next year. If you have never been to a Billetproof event, I highly recommend it. Not just a typical cruise with a lot of old guys like myself. The younger generation has really taken to traditional rods and customs. If you don't enjoy this group and have a blast at a Billetproof show you better check your pulse. These pictures are all from Saturday. Be sure to check out the photos on the back end of this gallery where the cars cruise through Historic Old Downtown Centralia. Sorry if I didn't get your car in this gallery. I tend to spend a lot of time chatting with others and that takes time from shooting. Everyone was friendly, from the cruisers to the people and businesses of Chehalis and Centralia - far more fun folks than any event I've been to. For crying out loud, people were even taking pictures of me taking pictures. I recommend hitting the slideshow button up there and watching the show. Muscle Beach Cruz 2009 : Muscle Beach Cruz 2009. June 20th at Seaside, Oregon. Over 500 photos in this gallery. The best way to see them is to push that Slideshow button. Always a good show - mostly muscle cars of the '60s and early '70s. You never know what will show up, but count on lots of horsepower. Some rain early in the morning kept a number of high-dollar cars away, but still plenty of righteous iron to see. A few sprinkles in the morning but a nice day overall. My favorites - the early muscle. A lot of people think muscle cars started with the Mustangs and Camaros, but there were plenty of early sixties full size pavement pounders to prove otherwise, including Pontiacs, Fords, and Chevies. Would have been nice to see some of the late fifties muscle that really got it all started, but those are out of range for the years allowed in this show. Started at 7 am with a great cruise down Broadway at 4 pm. Plenty more to see and do in Seaside and other spots at the coast.

Cruisin Sherwood 2009 : June 13th. Cruisin Sherwood Classic Custom Show The 19th annual gathering of more than 700 classic & custom cars on display in Historic Old Town Sherwood. "Burn-out" & "Engine Blow," '50s rock & roll, food & craft vendors & the 4449 steam engine. This show draws a good crowd every year. Lots to see and do in Old Town Sherwood while you're there. Great show for the whole family - even non-gearheads find cars that appeal to them.

Dallas Traffic Jam Show and Shine 2009 : June 13th, 2009. Dallas Traffic Jam. I found the town of Dallas some years ago when I picked up a nice 93 Mustang Cobra there. They have a nice car show in the Old Town area every year. What's really cool is the drive there. If you avoid the major highways it's a scenic drive without much traffic. Seems like there is a winery about every half mile all along the route.

Happy Days at the Bomber 2009 : May 17th, 2009. Happy Days at the Bomber opens the season for cruise-ins to Milwaukie, OR. There are several held here each year. The Bomber is a Milwaukie landmark since 1947. On the grounds is the Bomber Restaurant and a B17 bomber undergoing restoration. There used to be a gas station under the bomber. Time has taken its toll on the Lacey Lady B17, but the Wings of Freedom Project was established to restore the great plane. It's worth a visit to the museum on the site to see the progress that's been made. A lot of volunteer hours have gone into the project, but they could use donations to keep it going.

Portland Transmission Spring Classic 2009 : If I could only go to one show in Portland, the Portland Transmission Spring Classic would be it - rain or shine. It's been a yearly event since 1982. Hours are 7am - 11am, though some come early for a good spot. Then it's out to Cornelius for the yearly Papa's Toys Open House to benefit the kids of Doernbecher Children's Hospital. The pictures here are just a sampling. I wouldn't be able to shoot all the cars before bug-out time. Portland car culture is hot this year, if this show is any indication. There was something for everybody here. Good to see so many of the old-timers out.

Papa's Toys Benefit Open House 2009 : Papa's Toys is a yearly show in Cornelius, Oregon to benefit the kids at Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Great indoor car collection and more cars and clubs show up every year for the outdoor show. Everybody gets a First Place Blue Ribbon. It was a huge show this year. Andy Carson previewed it on the news, everybody was buzzing about on forums, and a lot of cars came out after the PTW Spring Classic show in Portland, which was also huge.

Portland Swap Meet 2009 : Portland Swap Meet pictures. These are from Friday morning. Weather was good - no sunburns! The Expo center swap meet was getting crowded already by 10 a.m. Racetrack not so crowded, but plenty to see. Still a lot of original old tin. The meet had a pretty good mix of cars for sale plus the usual swap meet stuff - automobilia, books and manuals, license plates, toys, and just a mix of all kinds of parts. What was noticeably missing was high-dollar '60s muscle car rare parts like cross ram Z28 manifolds or Ford tunnel port pieces, not to mention all the trick Mopar stuff. Those parts have moved on to greener pastures. Picture number 0019 is blurry for a reason - my camera is billet-proof.

Portland Intenational Auto Show 2009 : February 5th - 8th the Portland International Auto Show was held inside the Oregon Convention Center. For the most part it was just a bunch of different new cars in one place. They did have the new Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger on display. But the best cars were way off upstairs in their own corner. It was an exhibit to mark the 100th year of the show.

Simpson's Garden Town : Simpson's Garden Town is a nursery in Jamul, California, east of San Diego on Highway 94. On the grounds are a good number of trucks that have been forgotten by time. They also have two great museums, one with a nice collection of '60s and 70's muscle cars. The other has some great old trucks. Lots of automobilia and americana scattered around the grounds and in the museums.
